From 1942 onwards the composition changes from copper-nickel to copper-brass as it was cheaper due to the British being strapped for cash due to the war.

Prior to 1945, this was the highest value coin which was not minted using silver - other, higher denominations such as 1/4 rupee (4 anna) and above were minted in silver.
Since it was the last in the series, less of these were minted as usual. Mintage: 10,760,000.
